ABBOTTS CUTS AND CHAOS LEAVES THE COMMUNITY SECTOR VULNERABLE
The Abbott Government's trail of destruction continues with vital community service organisations facing closure as their funding ceases today.
$270 million dollars was cut by the Abbott Government without warning from essential community services in last year's Budget and since then have decimated hundreds of services through their shambolic tender process and short-term political fixes.
These cuts have caused chaos in the sector and have shown the Abbott Government's complete disregard for these critical frontline services.
Essential and often life-saving frontline community services all face uncertainty about their future tomorrow.
The community sector is worse off because of the Abbott Government's incompetence and dishonesty.
The bridging funding and funding extensions for select services has just provided a short reprieve for organisations which will now be forced to cut back services and staff or even close their doors forever.
The Government's announcement, earlier this month, of short-term funding for nearly a hundred service is a clear admission that the cuts have significantly compromised services.
These organisations, communities and families need support with services offer emergency accommodation, financial counselling and parenting support services - certainty not short-term political chaos.
If Tony Abbott and Scott Morrison are serious about standing up for vulnerable communities, families and children they will reverse these cuts in their entirety immediately.
Labor has called for an Auditor-General's investigation into the Abbott Government's mismanagement of the community grants program, following the tabling of the Community Affairs Senate Committee Interim Report into the scheme last month.
